Social media monitoring

The social media landscape is constantly changing, Newsmachine offers you tools to monitor the most popular platforms. The platforms make their data available in different ways, which means that the process for setting up monitoring differs somewhat.

Twitter

Our monitoring of Twitter works in the same way as our regular media agents. Go to Agents -> Create Search Agent and click “Edit Media List”. Under Channels, click “Select All” and then tap in the “Social Media” box. Switch to the “Sources” tab and click there from all boxes except Twitter. Switch to the Done tab and press “Apply”.

Please note that support for wildcard searches is limited to searches via Twitter.

Youtube

Our monitoring of Youtube works in the same way as Twitter does. Go to Agents -> Create Search Agent and click “Edit Media List”. Under Channels, click “Select All” and then tap in the “Social Media” box. Switch to the “Sources” tab and click there from all boxes except Youtube. Switch to the Done tab and press “Apply”.

Searches of Youtube are made in descriptions, titles, and comments. Channel names are not searched for.

Please note that support for wildcard searches is limited for searches via Youtube.

Instagram

Instagram does not make data available on the same Twitter and Youtube, so we offer a different solution there. Go to Agents -> Create SocialAgent and fill in a URL to either an Instagram feed or Instagram tag. In the “Search Profile” box, you can enter search terms in the same way as when creating a MediaAgent. If nothing is filled in there, the agent will deliver hits on everything that is published in the feed.

Facebook

The process of monitoring a Facebook feed looks like that of Instagram. Go to Agents -> Create SocialAgent and fill in a URL to either a public Facebook page or public Facebook group. In the “Search Profile” box, you can enter search terms in the same way as when creating a MediaAgent. If nothing is filled in there, the agent will deliver hits on everything that is published in the feed.

View and analyze results

Once the agent is up and running, you can view and analyze the results in exactly the same way as for other agents.
